CA Distringuished School Seal

Named after the first female superintendent of Napa County, Irene M. Snow Elementary School opened in 1959. Snow School is situated on a 12 acre parcel nestled among the southern foothills of the Mayacamas mountain range in Napa Valley. Aerial views of the original one-winged school show it sharing the landscape with dairies and prune orchards.  In 2018 Snow School was torn down and a new campus was built providing our students with a beautiful, new campus.

Currently, we have 390 students, eighty-nine percent of our students are Latino and eleven percent are Non-Hispanic. We have 13 K-5th grade general education classes and 4 special education classes.  The interaction of special needs students included in the larger school population promotes a very positive and unique flavor to our neighborhood school.  Our staff includes an Education Specialist, two Intervention Teachers, two Intervention Aides, two Speech and Language Therapists, an Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Counselor, Psychologist, Parent Liaison, and a Librarian.

One hundred percent of the teaching and administrative staff has been deemed “highly qualified” by the State of California. The average years taught for teachers on staff is eleven years at Snow. The staff work well together and show commitment in many ways. A clear sign of confidence in the school is that eleven current staff member have brought their own children or grandchildren to Snow for their education.

A balanced, comprehensive, standards-aligned core curriculum is at the center of teaching and learning at Irene Snow Elementary. Through focused efforts, careful planning and creative use of support staff, all students at Snow School experience an equitable education in the core curriculum.

Snow School has welcomed and benefited from strong community support. Family participation, as well as contributions from individual volunteers and organizations make the educational experience fundamentally richer.
